SMART Goals: – The 5-Step Process That Will Put Your Goal Setting in Flow!

“What keeps me going is goals.” ~Muhammad Ali

“Believe you can and you’re halfway there.” ~Theodore Roosevelt

Hi Diamond! I would like to invite you to take a moment to think about your dreams, desires, and goals. Now, take a moment to reflect on whether or not there is a possibility you have not achieved certain goals because you don’t think you can or you’re not sure how? Allow me to help you close the gap from where you are and where you want to be. You cannot succeed if you are holding yourself back, and furthermore you do not have to remain stuck.

Action Gives Your Goals Meaning

What is a goal? Anything you desire to experience, create, get, do, or become. Values drive goals, Hope creates goals, and Motivation drives perseverance. What do you need to give yourself permission to hope for? It begins with your day-to-day goals, what do you need to accomplish to help meet your goals? You must believe in your goal, believe in yourself and that you’re going to accomplish it. If you accomplish the goals you set, you’re going to feel much better about yourself. "Action gives your goals meaning", you learn by taking action, and this will help you in accomplishing your goals and feeling proud as you build your confidence. You will build confidence as you see the progress you’re making in real time.

When you set goals that are more specifically defined, with realistic deadlines, you could approach each goal more confidently. Keep in mind, things happen, your goals change, be open to experiment and adapt until you find the best pathway to your goal. If you need to revise a goal, ask yourself: Why am I changing this goal? Was the original goal unrealistic? Am I prioritizing my goals appropriately? Are urgent tasks too overwhelming? Learn something from the process. This self-reflection will improve our ability to set realistic goals and follow through.

SMART Goals: 5 Tips for Setting Your Goals

S – Specific (or Significant). Be precise – Set specific goals, put in dates and times so that you can measure achievement. Is it focused and unambiguous?

A – Attainable (or Action-Oriented). Break your larger goals into bite-size goals - this helps you to avoid becoming overwhelmed. Did you specify the action you will take?

R – Relevant (Realistic or Rewarding). Write goals down – This manifests them and gives them more vigor. Considering difficulty and timeframe, is it attainable?

T – Time-bound (or Trackable). Set priorities – When you have several goals, give each a priority. Take ACTION. Did you specify a deadline?
